Assignment 3- summary
Location:
Partihallarna, Marieholm. In this area there was a construction project between 2008-2011. Tyrens AB made some measurments on the concentration of zinc, lead and copper in groundwater and sediment during this project.
Aim of assignment 3:
The aim for this assignment is to make an analytical model and a synthetic model of the case study Partihallarna. To do this six parameters were chosen. The following parameters were analysed:
P1: The amount of contaminants leaching from source.
P2: Grain size
P3: Human activity
P4: The amount of contaminants in fill material.
P5: Distance from source.
P6: Precipitation
Two scenarios were evaluated:
Scenario 1: A year with high frequency of percipitation.
Scenario 2: A year with low frequency of percipitation.
Our question formulation for this assignment:
Which parameters effect the amount of pollutants in the groundwater and which one have the most influence?
Results:
Scenario 1 gave the highest effect on groundwater contminants.
The most important parameter was the amount of contaminants in the fill material (P4).
P1, P4 and P3 were effect-dominated.
P2,P6 and P5 were cause-dominated.
Discussion:
Scenario 1 is more likely for increasing contamination concentrations in groundwater. That is because an increase in precipitation gives a higher infusion of contaminants from pollution sources and sediments.
The most serious factor seems to be the fill material and if you want to reduce contamination concentrations, this is the main factor you have to deal with. Unfortunately, this could be both expensive and difficult.
